STATEMENT for GROUP SHOW Pola Museum Annex 2023

In the history of painting, the expression of the heart is one of the constant themes. I dare to depict "places" to express the feelings and thoughts of the people who live there. Japanese cultural characteristics influence why I chose this method. Japanese people have a cultural tendency to conform to a group, so they behave differently depending on the place they stand. Even the feelings and thoughts that come to mind at that time seem to change depending on the place/community. Therefore, in my eyes, hearts seem to come from a place.

To deepen this research, I needed to experience a non-Japanese culture, so I went to Berlin. The encounter in Berlin brought me many suggestions, especially about the culture of nightclubs. For instance, in the intense vivid colors of the neon light, I sensed the outpouring of the passion of the people who gathered there. Plus, I saw the way a place can exist together with diversity in where people danced in the space spreading out through the gaps of smoke. As a result, my paintings have acquired more intense colors and a more complex perspective of depth.

In this exhibition, I will present new and recent works created during my stay in Germany and up to the present. The locations depicted are mainly airports, nightclubs, and restaurants in Germany.

絵画において「心」の表現は不断のテーマですが、私は敢えて「場所」を描く事でそこに生きる人々の感情を表したいと試みます。何故なら日本人は集団に和する文化的傾向がある為、所属する場所によって立ち振る舞いを変えます。その時、心に浮かぶ感情や考えすらも場所によって変わっているように見えます。つまり心の主体は個人ではなく「場所」にあると捉える事を出発点に制作しています。

日本以外の文化に触れて研究を深めたいと考えドイツへ渡りました。そこで出会ったナイトクラブ文化からは造形的にも視座としても多くを学びました。ネオンの鮮烈な色彩に集った人々の激情の発露を感じ、煙の隙間に広がる空間で多様な人々が踊る様に多様性と共に成り立つ場所の在り方を見ました。結果として渡独以前と比べて絵により鮮烈な色彩と複雑な奥行きを得ました。

本展では渡独中から現在にかけて描いたドイツの空港、ナイトクラブ、飲食店の作品を発表致します。
