STATEMENT for SOLO SHOW "Place with Light" 2025

The light in a place not only brightens the space but also deeply affects people's emotions and behavior by illuminating their feelings and promoting connection. In this show, I depict places with lights lit for people, such as amusement parks and urban spaces, to express people's minds that they seek the lights and positive effects.
When we surround ourselves with light, it can be said we are welcomed by it. We are said yes to visiting the place, talking to ourselves and others, to be present. Like the café described in Ernest Hemingway's (1899-1961) short story “A Clean, Well-Lighted Place” (1933), it brings a small place to the edge of life that seems meaningless.
Similarly, light brings color. Vivid colors in paintings, that is, places with brilliant light, are not merely physical pictorial fictions, but are intended to become real light itself for people by affirmation of life. Art is also a place where light exists and it is necessary for people. This show is a corner of such a place, offering light and encouragement to the viewer.

場所とともに在る光は、単に空間を明るくするだけでなく、人々の気持ちを照らし繋がりを促進するなど、感情や行動に深く影響を与えます。本展では、遊園地や都市空間といった「人の為に灯された明かりのある場所」を描き、場所と光、そしてその光を求める人々の精神を表現します。
明かりに身を包まれるとき、私達はその光に歓迎されています。その場所を訪れること、自他と語らうこと、存在することを肯定されています。アーネスト・ヘミングウェイ（1899-1961）の短編小説『清潔で、とても明るいところ』（1933）に描写されるカフェのように、人生の淵にささやかな居場所をもたらします。
同様に、光がもたらすものに色彩があります。絵画上に描かれた鮮やかな色彩、即ち鮮やかな光在る場所は、単に物理的な絵空事ではなく、人の為の明かりそのものとなることを志向します。芸術の場もまた人々にとって必要な「光在る場所」です。本展はその一隅として、観る人に明かりを提供するものです。
